Fabian Treiber

Fabian Treiber (*1986, Ludwigsburg, DE) lives and works in Stuttgart. He studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste under Prof. Reto Boller, Discoteca Flaming Star (Prof. Cristina Gómez Barrio and Prof. Wolfgang Mayer) and Prof. Andreas Opiolka and graduated in 2017 with a Master of Fine Arts.

Treiber’s paintings often depict landscapes and architectural structures with surreal, disjointed perspectives, where the presence of human life is only hinted at through fragmentary elements. He explores the possibilities of painting and its various techniques with compositions led by form, colour, and texture rather than narrative subjects.

Treiber’s practice is inspired by the traditions of East Asian landscape painting, particularly those of China. In his works, striking pastel colours against muted backgrounds evoke a certain detachment. This deliberate interplay of presence and absence is always of symbolic significance, adding to the atmosphere of metaphysical inquiry inherent to Treiber’s imagery. Furthermore, the paintings often contain recurring details such as burning candles and smouldering cigarettes, alluding to the temporality of existence and encouraging moments of contemplation.

Fabian Treiber has had numerous solo exhibitions (selection) Städtische Galerie Ostfildern, DE; Städtische Galerie Ehingen, DE; Museum zu Allerheiligen, Schaffhausen, CH; Kunsthalle Nürnberg, DE; Kunstverein Ludwigsburg, DE; Ruttkowski 68, Paris, FR; Galerie Mark Müller, Zurich, CG; KANT Galleri, Copenhagen, DK; Strzelski Galerie, Stuttgart, DE and has been part of a large number of group exhibitions, including (selection): Villa Schöningen, Potsdam, DE; Kulturhof, Speyer; G-Art-en Artspace, Como, IT; Vollery Gallery, Dubai, AE; König Gallery, Berlin, DE; CFHILL Art Space, Stockholm, SE; Kunstverein Neuhausen, DE; Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, DE; Arts Projects Australia, Melbourne, AUS; Michael Horbach Stiftung, Cologne, DE; Kunstverein Lüneburg e.
