Fabric: Textile and the Female Nude
The exhibition Fabric: Textile and the Female Nude at Villa Schöningen explores the connection between textiles and the female nude in art. Featuring around 45 works by artists, such as Lucas II Cranach, William Copley, Lovis Corinth, George Grosz, Dorothy Iannone, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Christian Schad, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Mickalene Thomas, ranging from early 17th-century masterpieces to contemporary pieces, the presentation at Villa Schöningen illuminates this and related themes across various artistic genres and will not only focus on the female nude and textiles, but also create a space in which questions of power, visibility, and self-determination can unfold.
