ALEX MÜLLER | NKVM Neuer Kunstverein Mittlerhein

»KLAMMER AUF WIR«

Under the title ”FINES HEUTE,” Alex Müller and Verena Issel created a walk-through newspaper that spans the entire floor of the warehouse. Printed on large-format carpets, the medium of the newspaper transforms into a landscape, an obstacle course, a place to linger, and a public situation. Visitors move through headlines, essays, images, and fragments, accompanied by a recurring motif: disappearance. Time and again, the word “end” appears in a wide variety of languages, meanings, and contexts. Even the newspaper’s title embodies it: in Latin, “fines” refers not only to the territories one traverses but also to their boundaries—and, in a philosophical context, to the end itself. Yet this is not about the grand, final apocalypse. The exhibition explores the end of eras: the end of the Information Age, in which everyone lives only in their own echo chamber; the accompanying end of democracies; the end of states, which is in turn linked to this—but also the end of languages, jobs, personal memories, and a shared reality.

Founded in 2022, the Neue Kunstverein Mittelrhein e.V. (NKVM) is located in the heart of the Rasselstein industrial site on the River Wied. The association’s exhibition programme is complemented by an art lending library (Artothek), workshops, excursions, talks, and events dedicated to contemporary art. At the core of our mission is the communication and mediation of artistic ideas. We provide the region with opportunities to engage with and participate in the (new) production and presentation of internationally significant contemporary art, design, and architecture.
