MAXIMILIAN KIRMSE | Book presentation

Join us for the presentation of Maximilian Kirmse‘s new publication “Neighbourhood” and a pop up exhibition of the new works in our “Sauna” on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 6-8pm !
Maximilian Kirmse was born in 1986 in Berlin, where he lives and works. He studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. In Leipzig he completed his studies as a master student with Professor Astrid Klein.

In his paintings and drawings depicts a cartoonish, urban and occasionally provocative urban environment – places veiled by a blurry noise created by the painting technique, inhabited by figures wandering through their daily lives, commuting to work, waiting for the bus, crashing their car, getting a haircut, or walking the dog. Those moments that inspire Kirmse’s paintings are predominantly found in his neighborhood of Berlin-Schöneberg, which is his own center of life. Like a flâneur, Kirmse gains his reflections by observing the social events around him and captures them on paper as well as on canvas using a variety of techniques.

Works by Maximilian Kirmse were acquired by collections, such as the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Collection of Contemporary Art of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Cultural Foundation of the State of Saxony as well as the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung / Pinakothek der Moderne Munich.
